The White Amur is more commonly known as grass carp. These great "pond mowers" are a terrific alternative to chemicals as a means of aquatic vegetation control. When water weeds and moss are kept under control, your predator fish will keep forage fish populations to a minimum. Moss and water weed control can reduce the threat of fish kill due to vegetation die off. Ponds and lakes with very dense moss and aquatic plant life may require additional grass carp to control unsightly moss. White Amur do not naturally spawn. Early spring stocking is recommended, but grass carp can be stocked at any time between spring and fall.
***Grass carp are not allowed in all states; including Illinois.
Suggested Stocking Rates: Should be stocked at an average of 10 per acre, although severe pond weed problems may require more fish.
