The Channel Catfish is a staple in the farm pond environment. These fish can become "pets" when fed a commercial diet. Floating fish food is recommended so that your fish feed at the surface. Channel Catfish that eat fish food will taste better and grow faster than catfish which do not consume a commercial diet. A Channel Catfish stocked at the 6 - 8" size can achieve 3/4 - 1 lb in the first season after stocking. Plenty of forage fish should be available to catfish if not fed commercial food. Channel Catfish can be stocked from March through November.
Suggested Stocking Rate: 100-500 per acre if they are not fed a commercial diet, or up to 1,000 per acre if fed. Not more than 1,000 per acre if unless you have a good aeration system available. Stock 6-8" size when bass are present.
